A little more on my previous space exploration post. I get very
depressed everytime someone tells me they think space exploration is a
waste of money and that we have so many other things that we need to
spend our money on. Space is probably the most worthwhile goal open to
the human race.
Here are my top reasons why I think space exploration should be a priority.
- Purpose: One of the biggest problems with my generation is
apathy, we have no desire to do anything. We are simply biomass used to
run large corporations, we have no purpose. This sucks! We need goals,
reasons to excell as a society, somewhere to go.
- Safety: The entirety of the human race is stuck on this little
rock we like to call earth. If something happens to it, we as a species
and all other species on the planet (let's not be selfish now!) become
extinct. And it gets worse, not only will we become extinct but
everything we have learned over the past ten thousand years will
disapear. Art, culture, all gone in one fell swoop.
- Science: Pure scientific research is a worthwhile goal in itself, to simply gain a greater understanding of the universe that allowed us to come into being.
