Cool, the Beagle 2 has a Weblog!

Wow. Check out these new images from SIRTF. Nasa's latest and greatest infared telescope.

Here are some closeups and explinations of a few of the above: a galaxy, a comet, a galactic nursery and a newborn star. Can you guess which is which?

This morning's Today in History post hits close to home with me. While most of my posts are oriented towards events that had a global impact, the following event also had a major personal impact on my life.

On December 19, 1974 the Altair 8800 went on sale. It was the World's first personal computer and it spawned a revolution. Based on Intel's 8080 CPU it had no floppy disk, no monitor and no keyboard. But it did have several large switches for data input and a few LEDs for output.

An interesting sidenote to the story, the first programming language was written by a couple of unknows named Paul Allen and Bill Gates. Together (Allen did most of the work ;) they wrote BASIC for the Altair and after a succesfull sale they went on to found a company called... you guessed it: Microsoft.
