2004 Presidential Transition
Colorado Senator-elect Ken Salazar met with the President yesterday, according to the Denver Post [November 19, 2004, "Salazar supports Bush on migrants"]. From the article, "U.S. Sen.-elect Ken Salazar expressed cautious support for President Bush's immigration policy and his selection for attorney general Thursday after his first White House meeting since winning election...Salazar also met with Alberto Gonzales, the White House counsel Bush has nominated to replace Attorney General John Ashcroft. Gonzales is seen as less controversial than Ashcroft, but his authorship of a 2002 memo stating Bush has the right to waive anti-torture laws has stirred some opposition. Still, Gonzales is expected to be confirmed, though Democrats have told him to be ready for extensive questioning. 'I told him I expected to support him. I told him we needed to have additional conversations about what he expected to do,' said Salazar, still serving as Colorado's attorney general. 'We talked about the importance of making sure we support state and local law enforcement. There's a lot of work we need to do to get additional training.'"

Here's an article about provisional ballots from the Rocky Mountain News [November 20, 2004, "Unregistered voters tallied"]. From the article, "In Denver, 2,442 of the 10,108 provisional ballots didn't count. Among those, 1,142 voters either weren't registered or didn't register by the Oct. 4 deadline."
