Supreme Court Denies Review of Challenge to Gay Marriage
TalkLeft: "Faced with the novel argument that federal courts should protect state citizens from a state court's 'tyrannical' interpretation of a state constitution, the United States Supreme Court declined to review a failed challenge to same-sex marriage in Massachusetts."

Whatever Happened to Conservatives?
Paul Craig Roberts: "In the ranks of the new conservatives, however, I see and experience much hate. It comes to me in violently worded, ignorant and irrational emails from self-professed conservatives who literally worship George Bush. Even Christians have fallen into idolatry. There appears to be a large number of Americans who are prepared to kill anyone for George Bush." Thanks to Matthew Gross for the link.

2004 Presidential Transition
The Denver Post editorial staff is encouraged by President Bush's plan to visit Europe early next year to repair some of the damage his policies have caused [November 29, 2004, "Fence-mending on Bush's Europe agenda"]. From the article, "Bush's record for unilateralism and his estrangement from most of Europe has become an issue domestically and abroad. Bush needs to change the tone of the global discourse in order to achieve some of his overseas objectives - starting in Iraq. He needs to convince our European allies that a new term means a new day. A trip to Brussels, home to NATO and the European Union, is an essential first step. Bush has been a polarizing force in the world, even before the Iraq war, and has angered leaders and citizens from France to Frankfurt with his with-us-or-against-us tough talk."
Update: Taegan Goddard: "President Bush chose Carlos Gutierrez, chief executive officer of the Kellogg Co., to be secretary of Commerce, the AP reports. 'Gutierrez was born in Cuba and his family fled the country in 1960 when he was 6 years old.'"

Colorado Water
The state snowpack is at 103% of average according to the Rocky Mountain News [November 29, 2004, "Weekend dump of white gold sends ski resorts into ecstasy"]. From the article, "Saturday's figures - the most updated data available - showed the statewide snowpack had climbed to 103 percent of its historical average for this time of year, with southwestern Colorado seeing snowfall totals of more than 110 percent of average. Sunday's snowfall undoubtedly pushed those numbers even higher. The South Platte and Colorado river basins - the most important to northern Front Range water supplies - were at 95 and 93 percent of historical averages, respectively."
Here's an opinion piece about cloud-seeding from the Rocky Mountain News [November 29, 2004, "Denver's faith-based rain initiative"]. Denver Water's Chips Barry is quoted as saying, "It's better than rain dancing, I'm pretty sure about that."
