Holtzman files complaint against Beauprez

Wow. Marc Holtman's camp filed a criminal complaint against Bob Beauprez. From the article, "...today John Zakhem, attorney for the Holtzman camp, filed a criminal complaint in Denver District Court against the Beauprez campaign for Theft of Proprietary Information, a Class 1 Misdemeanor. Apparently the Beauprez campaign sent out a mass fundraising e-mail last week to 6,500 addresses that all came from Holtzman's personal rolodex. How the Beauprez campaign got a hold of Holtzman's personal rolodex is another story, but reportedly both the Rocky Mountain News and Denver Post are working on that right now."

Wall Street Journal Online: "...there are early signs that the Democrats could fare better in the gubernatorial elections set for 2006." Thanks to Political Wire for the link.

Harriet Miers for Supremes?
You gotta love the Internet. The Daily Kos has the image of a questionnaire signed by Harriet Miers.

Referenda C and D
A picture named denverstudentvoices.jpg.

This is very cool, Student Voices is back on my radar. It's a project for high school students - teaching them to research and write about (and consequently learn about) elections. It also gets them in the habit of surfing the online dailies.

Coyote Gulch first ran into the project during the 2003 Denver Municipal Election. The links from those days are broken but here's their new URL.

They've got cool new software (feel's like LAMP) and a nice new layout. Easy navigation. Coyote Gulch could not find an RSS feed though and that always disappoints.

Piglet Report

Ari Armstrong fisks the Rocky Mountain News this morning [October 3, 2005, "Speakout: Report's author decries News story"]. Armstrong is the author of the piglet report now known as Wasteful Spending by Colorado Government. He writes, "The Rocky Mountain News article of Sept. 27, "Official rebuts 'corporate welfare' report," is deeply flawed. I wrote the paper, Wasteful Spending by Colorado Government, published by the Independence Institute (available online at www.taxincrease.org/files/IP_8_2005_d.pdf). It's a 24-page document that contains more than six pages of material about corporate welfare and subsidies. Much of that material consists of direct quotes from Colorado's Economic Development Commission."

Coyote Gulch salutes the Rocky for running the opinion piece along with Mr. Armstrong's links.

John Andrews is urging voters to reject Referendums C and D in his column from yesterday's Denver Post [October 2, 2005, "Fog and fear cloud C & D"]. He writes, "Tax advocates are sounding the panic siren and cranking up the fog machine. Will it be enough to reverse their weak polls and pass Referendums C and D, saddling Colorado families with higher taxes and deeper debt? This month will tell."
