Republican Presidential Contenders Move Left

Referendums C and D

SoapBlox Colorado is drumming up interest in an October 10th debate between Andrew Romanoff and Jon Caldara. They write, "A reminder for those who can attend, on October 10 Colorado House Speaker Andrew Romanoff and Independence Institute president Jon Caldara will debate Referenda C and D at a Denver hotel." Here's the link to the event information.

The SoapBlox Colorado kids are also pointing to this article from the Pueblo Chieftain. From the article, "What's being billed as the event of the 'silly season' is coming to Pueblo later this month. That's when Gov. Bill Owens will, for the first time during this year's campaign season, debate El Paso County Commissioner Douglas Bruce over the merits of Referendums C and D."

The Referendum C TV ad wars continue, according to the Rocky Mountain News [October 4, 2005, "Pro-Ref C camp cries foul"]. From the article, "Supporters of Referendum C are livid over a TV ad they say falsely implies that Coloradans won't get income-tax refunds if the measure passes on Nov. 1. In the commercial, an actor playing a politician grabs an envelope marked "tax refund." He also steals an ice cream cone from a little girl. Independence Institute president Jon Caldara said the commercial never implies that income-tax refunds are at risk. But Ref C supporters on Monday launched a counter ad to tell voters who overpay their state income taxes that they will get refunds, whether Ref C passes or fails."

Fundraising numbers are in for September, according to the Rocky Mountain News [October 4, 2005, "Big operations line up to support Refs C, D"]. From the article, "Some of Denver's biggest corporate names are helping fund the campaign to pass referendums C and D, with the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce alone contributing a whopping $246,585 in September."
