2003 Denver Mayoral Transition
The Rocky Mountain News [August 6, 2003, "Hickenlooper interviews 4 candidates for job as Denver's top cop"] is reporting that Mayor Hickenlooper interviewed the final candidates for Police Chief on Monday. The original list recommended by the Mayor's transition committee contained 6 candidates. From the article, "The candidates who have been given final interviews to become Denver police chief. No timetable has been set for a decision: Gerry Whitman, 48, acting chief, Brian Gallagher, 51, District 1 commander, Rudy Sandoval, 58, District 4 commander, John Lamb, 47, head of traffic operations."
Representative DeGette is advising Mayor Hickenlooper to keep a lobbying presence in Washington D.C. according to the Rocky Mountain News [August 6, 2003, "DeGette: Keep lobbyists"]. The mayor is reviewing the City's lobbying contracts due to the City's budget shortfall. From the article, "U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette, a Democrat, told Hickenlooper over lunch recently that the city desperately needs an advocate in Washington to help it win federal funds for numerous programs. Everything from highway projects to terrorism protection and social programs depend, in some part, on federal money."
