2003 Denver Mayoral Transition
The Rocky Mountain News [August 30, 2003, "Rating Hick's picks"] printed an editorial yesterday about Mayor Hickenlooper's appointments so far. The Mayor has only appointed about half of the people he says he needs. They praise the diversity of the appointments but take issue with the lack of registered Republicans. The Rocky seems to think that fiscal conservatives only wear Republican clothing, "We wouldn't expect the mayor's staff to even come close to a partisan split, of course; Hickenlooper is a Democrat in a heavily Democratic city. But his campaign did appeal to fiscal conservatives, and his support in neighborhoods with substantial Republican constituencies was notably strong." Maybe the Rocky can get the Mayor in touch with Tom DeLay. DeLay is the current expert on increasing Republican representation.
