2003 Denver Mayoral Transition
Mayor Hickenlooper looks back at his first few weeks in office in this article from the Rocky Mountain News [August 23, 2003, "Mayor says so far, so good"]. From the article, "A month into office, Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper has named four of 11 Cabinet members, crafted an overhaul of the city's payroll system and started looking at parking meter rates. For the top positions, he's attracted candidates from inside and outside government and from various ethnic groups. And he's been able to trim salaries along the way. But not everything has been silky smooth. Hickenlooper acknowledges he has had trouble finding the right person for some jobs. He's still mired in the process of picking the city's police chief, even though he initially hoped to decide by early August. And his proposal to revamp the city's system for setting salaries and benefits has met with some vocal resistance." The Rocky also has a listing of appointments here.
