Here's an update from the Denver Post on the immigration bill being debated in the U.S. Senate. From the article, "Sen. Ken Salazar backed a Senate bill Thursday that provides an 11-year path to citizenship for illegal immigrants as the immigration debate moved to the Senate floor. But Colorado Republican Reps. Tom Tancredo and Bob Beauprez criticized the bill, saying it will increase illegal immigration. The Senate legislation 'would be like a dinner bell' for illegal immigrants, said Beauprez, who is running for governor. 'We will have created the biggest magnet ever.' Salazar, D-Colo., was joined by moderate Republican senators and fellow Democrats in saying the momentum is on their side. But Salazar and his allies spent much of Thursday denying that their proposal amounts to 'amnesty,' a dirty word in the immigration debate. Salazar said that the bill approved Monday by the Senate Judiciary Committee strengthens border enforcement and that the path to citizenship for immigrants would be far from easy...
"The bill includes a guest-worker plan, allowing low-skilled foreigners to work temporarily in the United States legally. Tancredo, who leads the band of several dozen representatives who pushed a tough border-security bill through the House, said there was little hope for reforming immigration if the senators insist on a guest-worker plan. Tancredo is worried that because President Bush supports a guest-worker program, any attempt to reconcile the differences between the two chambers will inevitably favor the gentler Senate version."
TalkLeft: "Robert Scheer over at Truthdig says there's no immigration crisis and we should legalize the illegals."
Blogs for Bush: "So, what about the other side of the debate - those who are pleased with the demonstrations?"
