Jesus' General, "One of the most important legal developments of the Enlightenment was the idea that human society should be governed according to neutral laws rather than the arbitrary whims of human leaders. This idea didn't originate solely in the Enlightenment, of course, but it was this era of change and progress during which the principle was extensively developed and realized in the form of new, modern governments.

"There's no guarantee that the laws will be just and fair, but so long as they are constrained by constitutional limits and reversible through the democratic process, then they are preferable to unconstrained, unchecked whims of even the most just human beings."

Daily Kos: "Imagine if the very foundation of cutting edge research science could be streamlined using the real-time, online blogging community model powered by the open source format familiar to all of us? Sci-blogger and friend Coturnix has been tasked to develop the community aspect of this idea, and he's asking for scientists and science buffs alike to see if that traditional peer review process can benefit from our novel methods at the Public Library of Science (PLoS)."

Political Wire: "Although 92% of respondents to a new Newsweek poll 'claim they would vote for a black candidate (up from 83% in 1991), only 59% believe the country is actually ready for an African-American president (an improvement over 37% in a 2000 CBS News poll). Similarly, 86% of voters say they would vote for a female commander in chief, but only 58% believe the country is ready for one (up from 40% in a 1996 CBS poll).' In a head-to-head match up, however, Sen. Hillary Clinton beats Sen. Barack Obama 56% to 33%."

Political Wire: "Rep. Ron Paul, a longshot for the Republican presidential nomination, has more cash on hand than Sen. John McCain, the one time favorite, CNN reports. Paul reports having $2.4 million in the bank compared to just $2 million for McCain."
