From Dan Haley's column in today's Denver Post, "In April 2004, the year Democrats took over the statehouse and grabbed a U.S. Senate seat and a congressional seat, there were 1,049,607 Republicans in Colorado. Since then, they've lost 4,039 voters, dropping to 1,045,568, according to new figures. Meanwhile, Democrats added 8,653, up 1 percent to 872,616.
"However, a whopping 54,843 new voters, perhaps wary of both major parties, have registered as unaffiliated. Their ranks are up 6 percent in just two years to 978,375, and their share of the electorate has grown more than a full percentage point, closing in on the GOP's shrinking majority."
