Wendy and Lisa and Prince In a search for what's up with Wendy Melvoin these days, I stumbled upon this interesting piece from last year about an artist that used to be near and dear to my heart and an time period that I was fully into it. I've got stories of other Prince shows I've been to, but this one is a dream... Prince's Purple Reign - The Making of a Classic Vol. 3: "On the night of Aug. 3, 1983, Prince and his new band, the Revolution, took the stage at a jam-packed First Avenue nightclub in downtown Minneapolis. In addition to being an unforgettable (and much bootlegged) live performance, the 70-minute show was significant, for it planted the seeds for "Purple Rain," which a panel of VH1-polled experts recently named the 18th greatest rock 'n' roll album of all time. Six new songs saw their debut that night, five of which ended up on "Purple Rain."
