Here's how I put it over at the Playboy Jazz Festival 2002 Discussion at Jazz Corner's Speakeasy

" I'm very lucky to be going to The Mansion tomorrow (well, today), 2/28/2002, for the press conference announcing the line-up. Never been before, so I'm really looking forward to it. Road trip from SD!"

I'll be taking pictures and notes and seeing what happens if you get lost in a room after they close the gates. I'll report back here. Excited? Yes.

Scrolling down to the 44th Grammy Winners, Production Field, I see the name of Manfred Eicher winning Producer of the Year, Classical. I was like, "Wow, I know that name. Where?" Didn't take long to remember that George Varga's Post Ken Burns Jazz class had an entire session on the label that Eicher founded, ECM. And he was the strong guiding hand from what we heard. His vision, or as George put it, "esthetic". Doesn't surprise that Manfred picked up the award. Congratulations.

44th Grammy Winners: Here are the Jazz winners. Marcus Miller's M2 (M-squared) for Best Contemporary Jazz...good choice...groovin' poppin' disc. All great nominees and winners. Great to see Sonny Rollins get one!
