John Pizzarelli On The New Jazz Thing Tomorrow, Thursday, November 21, 2002, 7 pm PT

I just got word that guitarist, vocalist, and all-around-nice-guy (bet he's overjoyed to hear that) John Pizzarelli will be rapping with us on The New Jazz Thing, tomorrow night at 7:00 pm PT-ish. He'll be in town at the Poway Performing Arts Center on Saturday, 11/23 (Jazz 88 members 20% discount, oh my). Doing a bit of research tonight and hopefully will come up with some interesting subjects to talk about.

Delta 4 Trying Again. With a Bigger Picture and Less Talking Heads.

Monitoring the Delta 4 launch...they're trying again after yesterday's scrub. MSNBC is broadcasting video again, but a bigger picture is available on Boeing's site (thanks Jeff).

Status: Launched and flying! Leaving for a meeting at T+20. Still going.

Amazing to watch from on-board the rocket. Watching the 1st stage separate, the rocket on the second stage move into place, and the second stage blow and roar, taking the rocket further into space with the curve of the earth in the background. Wow!

On the talking heads issue, I had thought that MSNBC was supplying the heads, but it looks like this is a Boeing production. I want that broadcasting job. And it's funny now that as the flight continues and the heads come back on for commentary, both of the Boeing dudes always say "It's looking good....so far." They don't want to jinks things at all...funny!

A Googlelicious Set Of Features

Jeff F. (a blogger in the disguise of joe-working-stiff) sends us a link to what amounts to a user guide to the many known and unknown features of our search engine of choice, Google.

"...even many frequent Google users aren't aware that the search site is bristling with special features-ways to make searching quicker and more accurate, to find special or specific information, and to call up different sorts of results."

My Google-eyes have come across a couple other Google-games recently. Doc introduced us to Google Sets this week (looks like you could build a big band from a rhythm section), the latest from Google Labs. Rageboy careens us over to GooglePeople where we find out who our friends are (I should get to know myself better). And finally Googleism shows us what Tony Taravella is up to. Fun Fun Fun.

A Moment In History - A Cabinet Without A Homeland Security Department

With Senate passage of the bill authorizing the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, I thought I would capture a screen shot of the Cabinet page of the White House website in it's pre-Homeland form for posterity (or infamy depending on how this all sorts out, he say pessimisticly). Here's what the cabinet looks like today...

Remember when the government didn't know everything about us? Click for full pre-Homeland webpage screen shot

Pray for leaders of strength that will not abuse the powers of collective information over our homeland.
