Potential Appearance on The Lounge This Friday

I may be sitting in with Dirk Sutro in The Lounge this Friday on KPBS Radio 89.5 San Diego (or Internet). Subject: MOOZIK in '02 (Dirk's wacky spelling). We'll see if the Jazz 88 gods allow and if we're talking San Diego music or Jazz in general (which is the direction we've gone before on that show in 1999 and 2001...no Zing pictures, damn).

More on this as the story develops.

Learning From Television: French Fries as Edible Chop Sticks

Just to refute my own theory that TV sucks (but is, unrelatedly, a hell of a child hypnotic device), using a technique from the Carl's Jr. Chili Burger commercial, I just picked up a blob of guacamole from my fish burrito with a pair of french fries. Never would have thought of such a clever use of fries myself.

Silenced Night

For those of you that participated in Unsilent Night and were looking for a physical representative of the New (at least this one), I'll explain my absense. For those of you just reading to see if I had any insight on the event, you can read along also.

Basically, I was running the usual late getting down to 5th and Harbor, due to circumstances beyond my control, but thought that a 6:45 arrival would keep me in the event. Then I began to realize that I had underestimated the stupidity of downtown planners to have enough parking spaces for Saturday evening crowds or even just one spot in a $10 lot that a van could fit into. I drove all over looking for a spot, pulling into that $10 lot thinking I'd made a good decision and then not finding anything resembling a spot large enough for my vehicle. After realizing that boy had fallen asleep during all of this looking (he had a full schedule of partying during the day), I secumbed to the fatality feeling and headed home. Actually we stopped for hot chocolate and I explained the twists and turns that life takes sometimes on the way to nowhere...trying to give what to me was a downer some sort of up-turn.

I later thought that I should have just tried to park down at the Imperial street trolley station (only a stop or two away) and go from there, but that thought only came after I cleared away all of the cuss words and downer vibe that filled my head during the above roamage. Hindsight is never very useful.

Anyway, if anyone participated in the event, I'd sure like to know how it all went down. I was close enough to yell "Miff Mole" out of the window and see about 15 people at the meeting spot, but so far away in the end.

Bah, humbug.

[Later] Miff Mole sends mail saying "What a gas." (and agreeing that parking was pretty screwed up). Maybe we can get some sort of official feedback in the Comment [] area below?
