Find Out What's In The Cooker For The New Jazz Thing

The New Jazz Thing Upcoming Events Calendar

"Here's the beginning of a coming events calendar for The New Jazz Thing. It will mostly focus on what's going to happen on the Live show, Thursday nights from 6 to 9 pm PT on Jazz 88, KSDS San Diego 88.3 FM. This will hopefully evolve into a true calendar where you can add an event to your own calendar to get reminders when these events are going to happen."

I've added some notes for January 2003. I need to add a permanent link to this from the website. Things to do.

A History Lesson In U.S. and Saddam Hussein: The Miscalculation

Washington Post: U.S. Had Key Role in Iraq Buildup

This isn't exactly new news, but the article gives a real good chronology and background of our dealings with Saddam. Proping him up against Iran and the bill for that is being paid now, at a definitely miscalculated price,

""Everybody was wrong in their assessment of Saddam," said Joe Wilson, Glaspie's former deputy at the U.S. embassy in Baghdad, and the last U.S. official to meet with Hussein. "Everybody in the Arab world told us that the best way to deal with Saddam was to develop a set of economic and commercial relationships that would have the effect of moderating his behavior. History will demonstrate that this was a miscalculation."

Doc, it doesn't look like it will ever change. At least not until we get the leaders of our country to start saying these things. Why can't Bush give us his reading of history with all of the blemishes and miscalculations admitted to? Maybe it's because they don't know history, or at least a history that is honest and true. If we heard honesty and wisdom (that comes from experience, both positive and negative), maybe we'd trust a bit more that the things they want to lead us into are worthy and bigger than current events let on...or maybe we'd be able to accept that what we do now will have negative consequences elsewhere BEFORE we do it.
