Blog Comment Options / Experience with Radio Userland

As I posted to the Radio Userland Discussion Group...

I'm looking for blog comment options that work with Radio Userland other than the Userland-hosted comments. My gut tells me I want to own my comments like I own my blog data that I publish with Radio Userland. I'm soon to be moving my blog from the radio.userland.com server to another hosting environment with these features (including MySQL, PHP, PERL, ASP).

If any folks have suggestions or examples (radio blogs using other commenting systems), that would be totally appreciated.

[Later...] Additional research uncovered Phil's list of comment options, to which I posted one.

Now It'sTime To Pick An Apple

Wired: Jobs Shows Off New Apple Products

"Apple's notebook lineup includes two new versions of its PowerBook. The first, the 17-inch PowerBook G4, will be Apple's largest-screen notebook. The second, the 12-inch PowerBook G4, weighing in at 4.6 pounds will be its smallest. Apple said the two models will sell for $3,300 and $1,800, respectively."

I spend some time yesterday monitoring the news at MacWorld, kind of a strange thing for a PC dude like myself to be doing...unless you have inside knowledge that I'm about to go TiBook on all y'all. The reason for watching was to see what direction the Powerbook is going and it's going both big and small, in addition to medium (which used to be big, go figure). I think the big looks too big for my needs, wanting to be able to carry it around easily (Doc's got size issues also)...the 12 looks pretty cool, small, powerful...with a SuperDrive it might be just what I need. I think I'll try and hold one (or a iBook of similar size) today and make a decision. Looks like JRobb's about to take a bite also (and it getting a lot of support and opinion via his Comment[] link).

Picture Phones To Update Weblogs

The Register: Start-up marries blogs and camera phones

"Using FoneBlog, network operators provide Web addresses for customers who can then update their personal Web sites by sending text and images from their phone. If the user's phone does not have MMS, a text only site can be created."

Dave wants to push those developing this service to use the MetaWeblog API, an general weblogging programming interface supported by several blogging tools. Whatever the implementation, adding picture from phones should totally integrate with desktop (or handheld or mobile or email) blogging that I do. Who wants to maintain a separate site for just the pictures you take with your phone?

This brings up another issue I'm dealing with: Where to edit my blog from? I want to edit it from everywhere and have been pretty successful with this. But it totally depends on my machine at home being up and running and no one else logging into it, etc. It's a tenuous thing at best, but does give me the mobility I need. More of this later.
