Steve Getz - Live On The New Jazz Thing! Thursday, 4/3/2003, 8:20 pm PT

Steve Getz will be in the Jazz 88 studios around 8:20 pm PT to talk about this Friday's (4/4/2003) Stan Getz tribute show at Dizzy's. Steve is leading a quartet from behind his drum kit. It will be interesting to hear how he and the band will go about tribute-ing a legend. And a father. I wonder if that's kind of strange for him. More to try and find out, although google search reveals not much there to find. Looks like we get to plow a bunch of new ground! Right on!!

Where is http://SteveGetz.com (oops, already taken by another explorer)?

Charlie Shoemake - Live On The New Jazz Thing

Charlie ShowmakeCharlie Shoemake, whose bio page is a great read and a total history of the jazz players who at one time or another hung on the West Coast. At least that's what I think of when I see names like Hank Jones, Lennie Neihaus, Tommy Flanagan, Bill Holman, Conti Candoli, Bud Shank. And here they all are in their beautiful picture-tude in Charlie's photo gallery.

Charlie will be phoning into The Live show around 7:20 pm PT Thursday night on Jazz 88, KSDS San Diego, 88.3 FM. He has a new album out, Vibes Master (link shout to Jazzmatazz, that we'll surely be talking about, along with other questions we come up with. Being on the West Coast, does he still see this side of the continent not getting the same respect and props that NYC does? Does he actually see distinctive differences in Jazz coming from the different coasts? And other interesting things.

Wow, it truly is amazing the representation of West Coast jazz (and San Diego Jazz) on the list of artists who have appeared at Charlie and Sandi's (his jazz singingest wife) Famous Jazz Artist Series at The Hamlet. As his bio reads, this latest chapter seems to be a dream....Getting To Bring All Your Friends Into Town To Play With You...Getting To Pay Them...Getting To Live In Some of The Quiet Beautiful West Coast...not bad!
