Last century brought a new direction, inward, to painting and my favorite portraitist of that journey is Paula Rego. Fear, sexuality, childhood and death are all dealt with on the same canvas in Rego's world. I want to see her work firsthand, but it's elusive.
A search of the net turned up a 1998 analysis of The Family and a discussion of a 1999 show in London featuring the painting Company of Women. The latest work found online are two drawings from 2001 in Lisbon.
I have only seen hints of one North American exhibition, and have located an art historian in Boston who may have more up to date information. I wonder if the west coast holds any Rego treasures? I'm gonna look.
Laser Girl: another laser illuminated portrait.
Last week, a strange religous holiday was observed in Lousiana. Fortunately Debbie 'Lucida' was at Mardi Gras with a camera.
