Nano-technology relies on tiny machines, like these atomic force microscope probes.
John Sader, a mathematician the University of Melbourne (Australia), will publish an analysis next month of V-shaped afm cantilevers, concluding them to be flawed as compared with bar shaped probes. A Science Blog article repeats (but doesn't point to) a press release from UM, which suggests this requires redesigned microscopes.
A survey of avalable probes however, shows both V and bar shaped cantilevers are used, for a variety of different applications. I wonder what's going on here?
And you thought this blog couldn't get any more obscure. I found this story while rss exploring through Paul Victor Novarese' subscriptions.
