" Apple Computer Inc. is in talks with Vivendi Universal to buy its Universal Music Group unit for as much as $6 billion, according to a published report Friday.
The negotiations, which have been a closely held secret for several months, could still dissolve over unresolved issues, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple has not made a formal bid but may offer $5 billion to $6 billion for the music company before Vivendi's April 29 board meeting, the Times added. " [CNN via MacInTouch]
