It seems tha there will be a way to keep your mac.com email after .mac comes into existence. In the .mac Help I found this item:
To convert your trial account to email-only, go to www.mac.com. Click Account in the .Mac menu bar, then click the Email Account Management button. Enter the member name and password of the trial account you'd like to convert, then click Convert.
Print your account information for future reference, then click Continue.
None of that works for now, but it is possible that Apple have thought about it and isn't saying anything until the last
minute to capture all the desperate who though I'm loosing my email, I'm loosing my email. Of course, it is still unclear if this will mean a POP account, or only a webmail account. I doubt it will include IMAP. I hope this is true...

Oooops!!!... Apple Spain says the new iMac has a "Pentium Power PC G4". Here is the relevant text:
La base ultracompacta de 27 cm alberga el iMac más veloz de la historia, con un procesador Pentium PowerPC G4 que devora las aplicaciones para Mac OS X. También incluye nuestra revolucionaria SuperDrive para que grabes tus propios DVDs y CDs a medida. Salta a la vista que el iMac le da muchas vueltas a cualquier ordenador del mercado. Igual que su pionero hermano pequeño.

To finish my Apple critique I think they are keeping themselves in the black by changing accounting practices, particularly with respect to R&D... So, this quarter may not be comparable to others.

iTools Becomes .Mac, With New Features, Annual Fee [MacSlash: A daily dose of Macintosh News and Discussion]
I think this is another mistake. It is so confusing and nobody knows how the upgrade will go. I do not want to upgrade until I understand
if all my family emails can go in one .mac account. I won't pay for a .mac account for each member of my family, if I loose one email I
might as well loose them all.

Apple Unveils iPod Music Players for Windows PCs. Steve Jobs said Apple will expand the audience for its popular iPod music player with new versions of the device designed to work with Windows-based personal computers. By Reuters. [New York Times: Technology]
Before I told you an iPod for Windows wouldn't happen, now that is happening do I admit I'm wrong? never! What I will tell you is that Apple is doing this wrong... Your Windows machine would need "Firewire built in" (does that includes Sony? But the cable doesn't work, let me call Apple so they send me a correct cable...) or "a Windows approved firewire card" (Approved by whom? What do you mean the cheap thing I bought doesn't work? I want my money back!), they are setting themselves up for a big support expense and there still will be criticism by the PC press (Why doesn't it work as well as in the mac? why? why?).

Microsoft sweetens Mac Office offer. With sales of its Office suite for Mac OS X falling short, the company plans on Wednesday to announce a rebate for those who buy the software when they pick up a new Mac. [CNET News.com]
Micro$oft complains that Office X sales are not as good as they expected, of course they blame Apple, but consider this: Even with this rebate Office X costs $399... Hmmm! Office X or an iPod?
