Even though I am already at my new job, the first item of my work at the old one has only appeared in public recently. Let me know what you think. It is a compromise and there are things I really don't like, but overall I find it very pleasing.

eWeek explains Steve Wozniak's new product/company. [Scripting News]
Ouch! What they plan to do is very hard and not very useful. GPS based encryption has several problems that I can think of in deployment. First is place of use, if no GPS data can reach there is no way the device will know its location, so a high-end (read expensive) GPS tracking device must be used (and still it may not work in some intended locations). Second, encrypting critical information sounds great until you start talking contingency, What about back ups? What happens if the dongle fails? The answers to these questions are not trivial and may convince a company that the method isn't worth it... The most portable of machines (laptops) will be hard to protect with this method. If a certain data should only be used in a couple of locations (say home and office) Why carry it with you everywhere? Just keep it in the locations you can use it...
