Password imperfect. Microsoft is leading by example in its push to ease the security risks posed by passwords. [CNET News.com]
Well, the problem is still the human involved. He/she will leave the smartcard at home, making it necessary to have a backup procedure involving passwords or biometrics, to avoid the problem he/she will leave the smartcard in his/her cubicle... je je... You can't defeat idiots.

Who says safe computing must remain a pipe dream?. Web surfing gets riskier all the time. Computer security guru Bruce Schneier outlines a 12-step plan to protect yourself. [CNET News.com]
Good advice all around. I would point out that just "not using Microsoft" stuff is not enough. It is better to point out to the stronger more secure stuff out there. That's Mac OS X for the non technical inclined and FreeBSD for the rest. Firefox and Thunderbird are probably the best options for browsing and email respectively (on a Mac you can use Safari and Mail) and OpenOffice is the best (only) Office substitute (without paying). On a Mac (no OpenOffice :-( ) there is an easy substitute for Microsoft Office and that is Microsoft Office! Of course, you have to pay (a lot) for it, but it is a good and secure program.
