News: PSP sells 500,000+ units in two days.
Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. announced that its PlayStation
Portable (PSP) generated more than US$150 million at North American
retailers for its first week in sales, and sold through more than
500,000 units during its first two days alone. The PSP is a handheld
video game console that can also watch movies and play music, and it
can work with a Mac or PC using a USB 2.0 cable. [ Macworld]
Sony expected to sell about a million in the first week, I wonder if
they made it. The product wasn't scarce if you looked around. The
reason? Only hard core gamers bought it. The PS2 was impossible to find
for months. Let's see if Sony learns from this and makes an improved
product soon. If only they managed to reduce the price of the memory
sticks and/or come up with a recorder for UMDs. There is rumor that
Apple wants in in this market. And it is clear that it could solve the
lack of vision and software nonsense of Sony and others, but it would
be a toughj market to crack. The PSP needs a browser, email, PDA
functionality and more games and movies. All this things will happen
eventually. Some are already appearing in one form of another. That
happen withj the iPods, and Apple responded. Will Sony do likewise?
