Interesting story about the challenges that Microsoft faces in this
market. Amazing to hear the market share Symbian (my choice) has. Why
does the story mentions more prominently the other two contenders
(Palm and Blackberry)? The only justification is that the series
60 is more phone than orginizer. What an ability to miss the lessons of
the iPod and the N-Gage. People do not want a massive device (if it did
Pocket PC would have won). They want a phone with a bigger screen that
replicates the info in the computer. Input in the computer is easier
than in carry on devices. It should mostly be done there. The Series 60
is a phone (except for the N-Gage and that is why it failed) that does
everything the Palm does in a smaller format. I stop using Palm and I
am not going back.
Another point to raise here is what Apple will do to counter the
obstacles presented by carriers in making an iTunes compatible phone.
The answer is so obvious... Apple should release a mobile version of
iTunes for Symbian devices. That way it can get in the phones without
the carriers permission. With that market share, it is obvious it
should go Symbian first... I hope Apple is listening.
