I yield to no one in my admiration for either Jonathon's eloquent Weblog or for cute cat pictures, but J. must have been too tired from staying up till 2:30 a.m. redesigning to check — the cute cat portal he cites not only sprang a pop-up ad on me but tried to download and install an adware shortcut on my desktop. But the redesign is remarkable, makes the Sun King's log even more readable in every sense of the word, especially to me who coughs up hairballs at the very thought of learning CSS (I've already admitted my peak of customizing craftsmanship involved editing UserLand's background GIFs). Don't miss it.

"Does Congress have no shame?" Well, we all know the answer to that, but John W. Dean — who has some experience with scandals touching the White House and high-profile Congressional investigations — points out the cruel pointlessness of huffing and puffing over dragging Kenneth Lay and other Enron execs before the TV cameras just to publicly deplore their choice to exercise their Fifth Amendment rights.
This week will set new records for rank hypocrisy as politicians declare their outrage over Enron while, led by GOP speaker Dennis Hastert's panicked warnings that only soft money can sustain the Republican majority, frenziedly fighting the Shays-Meehan campaign finance reform bill. Meanwhile, the Bush Administration insists, "Our inability to intervene proves our innocence. Case closed."
