Yamaha [Flash required] has introduced a new CRW-F1 series that offers a choice of SCSI (CRW-F1ZSX) or dual USB 2+FireWire interfaces (CRW-F1ZDX) in a new, external CD-RW drive for Macs, bundled with Toast Lite. [Pricing was not specified.]
Among several innovations is the ability to burn "art" images onto the disc and "Advanced Audio Master Recording" mode:
"Digital noise or jitter deteriorates the bit's edge that naturally occurs over time. When 'Advanced Audio Master Quality Recording' mode is enabled, the system widens the lands and the pits, significantly reducing jitter created during CD-R recording. The CRW-F1 supports up to 870MB and can record a maximum of 79 minutes music data with the 'Advanced Audio Master Quality Recording' mode."
[Macintouch]Interesting. So are we saying that jitter is recordable and audible on CD-Rs?

Replace Arafat, Bush tells Palestinians
The president of the United States wants the Palestinian people to
replace Yasser Arafat as their leader as part of his plan to bring peace
to the Middle East.
F U L L S T O R Y [CBC News]That's right. The Palestinians must elect their leader. But it can't be someone we don't like. Bill Clinton would be a no go for example.

Judge-imposed death sentences thrown out. NYT (AP): Court Overturns More Than 150 Judge-Imposed Death Sentences. "The Supreme Court overturned the death sentences of at least 150 convicted killers today, ruling that juries and not judges must make such decisions." [Jake's Radio 'Blog]It blows my mind that there still is a death penalty in the US. But I guess this is good news.
