News.Com: Why telecoms back the pirate cause. Q&A with Sarah Deutsch, VP and associate general counsel at Verizon... [Tomalak's Realm]
We oppose the Berman bill. It's very troubling in that it essentially permits one particular segment of the U.S. industry to engage in vigilantism on the Internet. So, for example, the content community could engage in denial-of-service attacks, as long as they have a reasonable belief that they were defending their copyright.I think "pirate cause" is definitely a poor choice in phrases to describe those opposed to things like copy protection and the Berman bill -- it misses the point that many of us, if not most of us, are not pirates at all -- we just believe in fair use. It is good to see that the telecoms don't support what Hollings and Berman are trying to pull off for Hollywood...

Hey Joe... I feel so "Alien"ated by the term "Visitor" (reference to an old 80's mini series and tv show of the same name). Could you change that to say, "people who have nothing better to do so they frequent my site"? "if these people paid a quarter every time they visited I'd have more money than that Microsoft guy"? how about "hey look! the subliminal messages worked on some people!"? or "they said 'build it and they will come' and this is what showed up?!". Or the infamous "look what the cat hacked up on the bedroom floor this morning!"...must've been three or four shots, at least. Think I'll make myself a tasty quad-latte... ;~]]
