Piece Of Earth. Bush urges patriotic Americans to refrain from using "Peace On Earth" during the holiday season. [AlterNet]
To make one correction to what I said last Monday in response to "Lott tripped by bloggers?" -- I learned today that blogger Josh Marshall actually posted information and commentary about Lott's comments (regarding Thurmond) on Friday, the 6th (via OnlineJournalism.com via Blogging Alone).
Kudos to Josh for jumping on the story so early, though I still remain somewhat skeptical as to just how much of a role his comments (or other bloggers' comments) played in determining Lott's fate (though they certainly demonstrated the power of self-publishing in giving each of us an immediate voice).
Maybe blogs sped up the process, but then again, maybe not. The controversy would have existed regardless, and what happened in Washington would have happened anyway, primarily because of what Lott said and how other politicians (eventually) responded to it. That's where the power lies, unfortunately. Just my opinion...
