The Learning Curve - The best thing I've read in ages - "Purists may hate the encouragement of ignorance, but that's the secret: it's so much easier to stand on the shoulders of giants if they happen to be conveniently stackable." - this is so on my wavelength it's scary. [via Scripting News]

I've alway thougt that the point of all these many million man years of programming by people far smarter than me was to allow me to build anything I wanted with minimum effort. It appears that even smart people still think this isn't true. Elsewhere Joel says that "if the pointer stuff drives you crazy, trust me, you're not going to like programming very much" - that's such a narrow minded comment (and from someone I respect) it's unbelievable. For a start it writes off a massive, vital community of people who love using Flash (you knew this was related right? ;) and it's so 20th century in it's attitude.

Amazon XML Services - Amazon are supplying various XML service for associates, the next big release after Google!! Details here but you'll need to be an associate to see them.

OT: RTFM - Documentation as narrative? I'd prefer to think of it as building a house - it's going to go a whole lot faster if somebody builds a solid foundation, then people are more inclined to get on with putting some work into the luxuries.  This is one of the reasons that the PHP documentation is beautiful to behold, and getting better all the time - I dream of an actionscript version of it.

AT#Remix - bit of a gratuitous design link but an interesting guest book concept, a literally 'threaded' discussion"! [via Newstoday]
