"What kind of peace do I mean? What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children - not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women - not merely peace in our time but peace for all time." -- JFK

Sometimes you can tell what's right by listening to the other side.

Kissinger claims *not* invading Iraq could be harmful to our international standing. What? Bush has wrecked our alliance, united the people of the world against us, and left North Korea on a rampage. This is all *before* the invasion.

I have no doubt that Bush will lose face if he's forced to quit the war, but the United States will rise in popularity and respect. The bad guys know that if Saddam had *actually* done anything, he'd be toast now. And *we'll* look like a country that's smart enough not to follow through on insanely stupid ideas.

Friends don't let friends drive drunk.

France is our *friend*. Get it?

[4:54:23 PM]
New York City had better learn from Saturday's rally. It's completely unacceptable to deny a permit to march. It's completely unacceptable for the cops to try to stifle political expression by forcing too-large masses of people onto the sidewalks.

Face it, Bush's war is so unpopular that you just have to give up the streets to the demonstrators. That's part of our freedom of speech. If more people show up than can fit into your planned area, cops must be ready to expand the area.

Any other course -- like what we saw in New York City -- is reckless. It puts police into a senseless confrontation with the mainstream of society, and distracts everyone from being safe.
