QUOTE OF THE DAY
"I like to believe that people in the long run are going to do more to promote peace than our governments. Indeed, I think that people want peace so much that one of these days governments had better get out of the way and let them have it."
- - Dwight D. Eisenhower
RHINO HERE:
The Middle East is as unstable and volatile as ever. Yet Shrub & Co. insist on starting more war attacking Iraq & it seems more sooner than we expect.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,764197,00.html Bush and Blair agree on terms for Iraq attack, The Guardian, 7/27/02
This in spite of the fact it won't be any easier to get rid of Saddam than it was when Papa Bush tried and failed. Think this is a good way to expend billions of our taxpayer dollars and many of our young men's lives? If not, do you feel powerless to do anything about it? Then PLEASE READ ON.
I'm sorry this is a longer than normal Blog but I want to make available some concrete ideas for simple actions any one of us can take to try and turn this insanity back; just a few phone calls and you can help.
Today, 7/30/02, Congress is trying to pull a fast one on the American public by whitewashing the issue of invading Iraq. Snap hearings (meaning quickly called and quickly held) called for Wednesday and Thursday by Sen. Joseph Biden (D-DE) and Jesse Helms (R-NC) have currently invited only pro-war witnesses to speak. Let's not let them stack the deck!
CALL THEM TODAY, July 30th! IT ONLY TAKES A COUPLE MINUTES
Chair: Joseph Biden (D-DELAWARE) (202) 224-5042
Ranking Member: Jesse Helms (R-N. CAROLINA) (202) 224-6342
Urge them to include expert witnesses on both sides of the issue of launching a major war on Iraq. The following officials OPPOSE the deadly sanctions and war on Iraq, but are NOT being invited to speak:
- Scott Ritter:former UN weapons inspector in Iraq (resigned in protest, 98)
- Former UN Humanitarian Coordinators in Iraq:
Denis Halliday (1997-98, resigned in protest) and
Hans Von Sponeck (1998-00, resigned in protest)
Why did they all quit? Apparently Congress doesn't want to know.

Call both YOUR Senators and ask to speak with the Foreign Policy Staffer (FPS) names below.
SOME QUESTIONS TO ASK ARE:
- Does the Senator has hard evidence that Iraq poses a real threat to Americans like myself.
- What has Iraq has done that justifies risking the lives of thousands of young American service men and women and millions of Iraqis in a new war?

- Please send me a copy of the hearing transcript so I'll know if my Senator spoke up and asked the tough questions. (Leave name, address, and organization if possible)
- Fax a follow up note, three sentences is sufficient on organization stationary if possible. (Note: fax numbers given below)
