QUOTE OF THE DAY "George Bush was not elected by a majority of the voters in the United States. He was appointed by God." - - Army Lt. General William G. "Jerry" Boykin KNOW YOUR HISTORY - OCTOBER 20th 1911 -- Will Rogers was born. A cowboy with Cherokee Indian blood, who when he wasn't acting in Hollywood movies, was off touring the world, twirling his lariat in front of Kings, Queens & Prime Ministers while telling truth laden jokes about current events & human nature. 1947 -- The House Un-American Activities Committee re-convened in Washington and opened public hearings on alleged communist infiltration within the motion picture industry in Hollywood. Among those denounced as having un-American tendencies were: Katherine Hepburn, Charles Chaplin and Edward G. Robinson. Among those called to testify was Screen Actors Guild President Ronald Reagan, who denied that leftists ever controlled the Guild and refused to label anyone a communist. 1967 -- Seven men convicted in Meridian, Mississippi., of violating the civil rights of 3 murdered civil rights workers. RHINO HERE: When the shrub uttered the word "crusade," shortly after the 9/11 attacks, his sinister had him promptly do damage control by saying that "the war on terror will not be a war on Islam", and, "the war on terrorism is not a clash of civilizations." But how much of a mis-speak was it? Recently the man responsible for today's QUOTE OF THE DAY, Army Lt. General William G. "Jerry" Boykin, was nominated by Darth Rumsfeld for a third star a promotion to Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence. A 30-year veteran whose resume includes leading roles in special ops theatres of war from the failed Iranian hostage rescue attempt in 1980 to invasions in Grenada & Panama, to the hunt for drug lord Pablo Escobar in Colombia, to Somalia & all over the Middle East. He also was an advisor during the murderous ATC Waco attack. But what is most unacceptable to The Rhino & I'm sure to many blog readers is that Boykin is an intolerant Christian fundamentalist extremist who brags that his belief in Christianity is responsible for his military successes over Muslims & other non-Christians. If we're interested in the security of the U.S., then this man should not have a position of authority, especially one with a microphone near his mouth. Consider that just this month, the shrub gang's own Advisory Group on Public Diplomacy for the Arab and Muslim World reported that since 9/11, "hostility toward America has reached shocking levels....Arabs and Muslims respond in anger to what they perceive as U.S. denigration of their societies and cultures," the report said. Today's RHINO'S BOTTOM LINE is an L.A. Times investigative report on the Crusader General. But first, check out a report on front runner Dem Prexy Candidate Howard Dean, speaking to the Arab American Institute's national leadership conference, kicking ass & namin' names, including General Boykin. Rhino thinks the good Governor would do well to start offering cabinet jobs to several of the other candidates (behind the scenes), starting with general Clark for Vice, Dennis Kucinich for Secretary of The Department of Peace, Carol Mosely Braun as Secretary of State and the Reverend Al Sharpton as Press Secretary. Dean Gets Standing Ovation from Arab-Americans By Tom Brown , Reuters, 10/18/03 DEARBORN, Mich. - Democratic presidential hopeful Howard Dean received a standing ovation from an Arab-American audience on Saturday when he attacked leading conservatives and figures from the religious right. Dean, one of seven Democratic presidential candidates to address the Arab American Institute's national leadership conference in Dearborn, pointed to an American flag and named some of the people he said it did not belong to. "It does not belong to General Boykin, or John Ashcroft ( news - web sites ), or Rush Limbaugh or Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson," the former Vermont governor said to cheers in the packed hotel conference room in the Detroit suburb which is home to one of the highest concentrations of Muslims and Arabs outside the Middle East. "This flag belongs to every single American, including every single American in this room, and is the hope and aspiration for many other folks who are not yet citizens," he said... IT'S ALL AT: Standing Ovation

The Pentagon Unleashes a Holy Warrior by William M. Arkin, Los Angeles Times, October 16, 2003 In June of 2002, Jerry Boykin stepped to the pulpit at the First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow, Okla., and described a set of photographs he had taken of Mogadishu, Somalia, from an Army helicopter in 1993. The photographs were taken shortly after the disastrous "Blackhawk Down" mission had resulted in the death of 18 Americans. When Boykin came home and had them developed, he said, he noticed a strange dark mark over the city. He had an imagery interpreter trained by the military look at the mark. "This is not a blemish on your photograph," the interpreter told him, "This is real." "Ladies and gentleman, this is your enemy," Boykin said to the congregation as he flashed his pictures on a screen. "It is the principalities of darkness It is a demonic presence in that city that God revealed to me as the enemy." That's an unusual message for a high-ranking U.S. military official to deliver. But Boykin does it frequently. This June, for instance, at the pulpit of the Good Shepherd Community Church in Sandy, Ore., he displayed slides of Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein and North Korea's Kim Jung Il. "Why do they hate us?" Boykin asked. "The answer to that is because we're a Christian nation. We are hated because we are a nation of believers." Our "spiritual enemy," Boykin continued, "will only be defeated if we come against them in the name of Jesus." Who is Jerry Boykin? He is Army Lt. General William G. "Jerry" Boykin. The day before Boykin appeared at the pulpit in Oregon, the Pentagon announced that Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld had nominated the general for a third star and named him to a new position as deputy undersecretary of Defense for intelligence. In this newly created position, Boykin is not just another Pentagon apparatchik or bureaucratic warrior. He has been charged with reinvigorating Rumsfeld's "High Value Target Plan" to track down Bin Laden, Hussein, Mullah Omar and other leaders in the terrorism world. But Gen. Boykin's appointment to a high position in the administration is a frightening blunder at a time when there is widespread acknowledgment that the position of the United States in the Islamic world has never been worse.
