QUOTE OF THE DAY "Of all the enemies to public liberty, war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few." - - James Madison KNOW YOUR HISTORY - OCTOBER 1929 -- US: Wall Street Stock Market Crash; harbinger of the worldwide Great Depression of the 30s. 1940 -- US: The 40-hour work week goes into effect under Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938. This after a few thousand demonstrations, decades of labor agitation & strife & a considerable number of lives to achieve such radicalism. RHINO HERE: Besides stealing the skull of the great Apache leader, Geronimo, right out of it's grave, as proof that he was worthy for membership in the secret Yale society, "Skull & Bones," now it comes out from previously hidden WWII-era records that shrub's Grandpa, Prescott Bush, later made his fortune financing the Nazi war machine and used the profits to finance his campaign for U.S. Senate in 1952. Lots of scuttlebutt going on about whether its fair game to bring such a story to national attention when, like the story of the Governator's Dad being a Nazi cop not really reflecting on Ah-nold, this story doesn't really involve the shrub. But then, was Grandpa Bush's ability to make money from war that much different from what shrub's neo-robber barons buddies are up to now? You be the judge. Here's a couple blurbs on the story from www.democrats.com along with the associated articles. Then, RHINO'S BOTTOM LINE is by Viet Nam Vet, Max Cleland, a former U.S. senator and former head of the Veterans Administration in the Carter administration. He now teaches at American University in Washington and here makes some compelling comparisons between the Viet Nam war and the current "slog" in Iraq. Did Prescott Bush Build His Family's Political Dynasty with Blood Money from Financing the Nazis? Conason Says 'Get Over It' Democrats.com, 10/23/03 Joe Conason is one of our favorite "patriotic progressive" journalists. But sometimes even Conason is simply wrong - as with his attack on those of us who are calling attention to the astonishing revelation by investigative reporter John Buchanan that W's famous grandfather Prescott made his fortune financing the Nazi war machine. Prescott's Union Banking Corp. was seized by Congress under the "Trading with the Enemy Act" on 10/20/1942 - that's REAL treason, not Ann Coulter's kind. Yet in 1951, Prescott walked away with $750,000 ($5 million today), which helped finance his campaign for U.S. Senate in 1952. This stunning fact was scrubbed from history during Prescott's lifetime, so his Connecticut voters never knew, nor did those who voted for his son and grandsons. But previously hidden WWII-era records are now revealing the truth. So the LIVING Bushes are now LYING - through an authorized biography of Prescott that scandalously scrubs his treasonous business dealings. Bush 'Nazi' smear unworthy of critics Joe Conason - The New York Observer, 10/22/03 Liberal invective against George W. Bush has not yet descended to the depths plumbed by conservatives in their crusade against the Clintons, but that isn't because nobody's trying. Mr. Bush's most zealous opponents apparently believe that his faults, and those of his cronies and his administration, will be insufficient to unseat him next year. That may be why some Bush critics have been circulating a story about the financial connections between his paternal grandfather, Prescott Bush Sr., and a Nazi industrial magnate named Fritz Thyssen... READ THE REST AT: http://www.workingforchange.com/printitem.cfm?itemid=15851 Fox Attacks Bush-Nazi Expose Karl Rove is clearly terrified of John Buchanan's explosive expose documenting Prescott Bush's TREASONOUS Nazi fortune. On "Special Report with Brit Hume," right-winger Byron York attacked the Bush-Nazi link as "the farthest fringes of the political debate." He attacked venture capitalist Sheldon Drobny, who is launching a liberal talk radio network, for writing with perfect accuracy: "Very few Americans know that Prescott Bush, our president's grandfather, supplied Nazi Germany with support for its re-armament. The information is documented, but is not known by most Americans because, as in any successful, fascist regime, the press is prevented from publishing it." Hey Brit, why don't you invite John Buchanan on to your show to show your audience the PROOF??? DISASTER IN THE DESERT by Max Cleland Let me see if I can get this straight. The President of the United States decides to go to war against a nation led by a brutal dictator supported by one party rule. That dictator has made war on his neighbors. The President decides this is a threat to the United States. In his campaign for President he gives no indication of wanting to go to war. In fact, he decries the over extension of American military might and says other nations must do more. However, unbeknown to the American public, the President's own Pentagon advisors have already cooked up a plan to go to war. All they are looking for is an excuse. An element of the U.S. military is under attack. The President, his Secretary of Defense and his advisors sell the idea to Congress and the American people that it is time to go to war. Based on faulty intelligence, cherry-picked information is fed to Congress and the American people. The President goes on national television to explain the case for war, using as part of the rationale for the war an incident that never happened. The Congress buys the bait hook, line and sinker and passes a resolution giving the President the authority to use "all necessary means" to prosecute the war. The war is started with an air and ground attack. Initially there is optimism. The President says we are winning. The cocky, self-assured Secretary of Defense says we are winning. As a matter of fact, the Secretary of Defense promises the troops will be home soon. However, the truth on the ground that the soldiers face in the war is different than the political policy that sent them there. They face increased opposition from a determined enemy. They are surprised by terrorist attacks, suicide bombers, village assassinations, increasing casualties and growing anti-American sentiment. They find themselves bogged down in a guerrilla land war, unable to move forward and unable to disengage because there are no allies in the war to turn the war over to. There is no plan B. There is no exit strategy. Military morale declines. The President's popularity sinks and the American people are increasingly frustrated by the cost of blood and treasure poured into a never-ending war. Sound familiar? It does to me. The President was Lyndon Johnson. Gotcha. The cocky, self-assured Secretary of Defense was Robert McNamara. Gotcha again. The Congressional resolution was the Gulf of Tonkin resolution. You're catching on. The war was the war that I, John Kerry, Chuck Hagel, John McCain and three and-a-half million other Americans of our generation were caught up in. It was the scene of America's longest war. It was also the locale of the most frustrating outcome of any war this nation has ever fought. Unfortunately, the people who drove the engine to get into the war in Iraq never served in Vietnam...
