Today's Google hit

Someone from another country (not the US or Indonesia) searched for Channels Islands soccer and I'm listed as number two! No one reads my weblog?!?!? Why am I number two?

No one reads me.

However, every day I get at least one strange hit from Google. Some one searches for something and I show up high enough on the list that they come to my site. Strange and very cool.

Shortened RSS feeds

"Ziv Caspi of Y. B. Normal thinks that "Aggregators should bring more, not less, information", and I'm inclined to agree."

I find it interesting that this quote is on decafbad.com, since there own rss feed is truncated (as is Jon Udell's and Slam's). I'm beginning to hate truncated feeds. For most of them, I just end up bringing up the site each time new posts come in so that I can read the entire post. People should always have the choice of a complete feed or truncated.

Time to switch to a mac?

06/14/02 04:24 CEST. Switching to the Mac (Kottke) -- "Linux will never be big on the desktop until they have a professionally designed GUI to go with it. I don't care how much power the OS has under the hood if the UI is clunky. I want the command line, but I also need to use the latest desktop applications like Photoshop (and spare me your GIMP recommendations. As if.)." [WebWord]

I've been thinking about this myself, lately. Do I go the route of intalling Linux (what version?) on an Intel box? Or, just buy a Mac? The first is cheaper, the second is probably considerably easier. It would be easier to stick with my Windows laptop and boxes, but some twitch inside makes me want to play with all the new stuff that is floating around. I have a long history with Macs that ended about 8 years ago. But Apple was my first true computing love. Kottke makes some good points, most of which mirror my reasoning.

Active renderer

I've just installed v. 1.04 of Marc Barrot's active renderer. I think a much earlier version was causing my upstreaming problems. If that's the cause, it is the second time i've been bitten by a radio tool. Take caution.
