Multihomed WLANs from Intel [Slashdot]
Intel is proposing cards that can jump between multiple networks. they can be hardwired or wireless. This would sure come in handy in both offices and at LAN parties. Given that Intel is already working on embedding LAN connectivity into their chipsets, it will be a huge boon for network techs, savvy home users, as well as travellers who want to airsnort though a neighborhood so that they do not lose their connection.
College campuses could provide access to students and faculty alike, combinding this with a wireless IP based telephony solution so that everyone on campus could always be in touch. Ditto for office buildings.

Cheney's Daughter Offered State Department Job. The State Department offered Vice President Cheney's daughter, Elizabeth Cheney-Perry, a job as the deputy assistant secretary of state for Near East affairs for regional economic issues, UPI reports. Officials -- who spoke on condition of anonymity -- said "the new post was created specifically for the vice president's daughter, ... Where does nepotism end, and qualification begin? While Cheney-Perry has been working in the field of international law both for the US Agency for International Development and for Armitage Associates LLP, does that make her the most qualified person for this job? While I recognize the need to surround yourself with like-minded people, especially when it comes to politics, is it wise to hire your children when you are trying to be ethical?

Tech Industry Takes on Hollywood over Copyrights [Dan Gillmor's eJournal]
Commentary: It appears that they are both fighting over who has control, and how much there should be. Vasasz makes the point that regulation by government will stifle innovation by both industry and consumers, and I agree with him on that point. The worst solution is legislation, the best, self control. I fear that I am too optimistic in my attitude, as people have shown a willingness to both get and distribute something for nothing.
I think that the existing payment models need to change, that media needs to rethink it's revenue base, and start accepting that there is a new way of doing business that they must adjust to. A better way would be for Apple or Intel or someone to start testing new revenue models.
