Steve Jobs nails it. "We believe that over 80 percent of people are willing to pay," he says. "But there is no one offering you a choice." Amen.  [Scripting News] Ditto.

Electricity competition rules upheld. Ruling supports decision intended to give people choices for electricity service. [USA Today : Front Page] Why can't we do something similar with the local telcos? I know that would be a dramatic increase in the role of the FCC, which I am not in favor of, but wouldn't this help broadband roll out faster and cheaper?

Flash: More than just eye candy. For most Web surfers, Flash is the blinking, animated frosting on Web sites. Now Macromedia wants to make it the whole cake. [CNET News.com: Personal Technology] If I still cannot bookmark a Flash site, it is worthless to me. I need to be able to jump to the data I want, now, otherwise it's faster for me to do my business elsewhere. While this is a step forward, especially with the integration to use in handhelds and other devices, until I can go to a specific spot, pure flash is not the way to go for design. The tie into XML data feeds is neat, though the shared objects feature screams virus/hack alert to me.

House Cool to Copy Protection. Key legislators in the Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives aren't keen on embedding copy protection controls in consumer electronic devices. Declan McCullagh and Robert Zarate report from Washington. [Wired News] It's interesting how this is breaking down along party, and who is funded by which industry's, lines.
