My PHP Writings

Alex (who I mistakenly called Adam in a blog post on Sunday; sorry Alex) asked me for a list of all my php writings.  Ack!  And his reward is this index to my php writings.   I'll try to get them all.  Not sure if this is complete and some of the articles are starting points only but there's code in them thar articles as they say.  Libby may like this too:

Googling for Me and PHP

Complete

Blogged Stuff:

Incomplete, honestly no idea what state they are in.  I started them, got pulled off and never got back onto them.

Now Alex also brought up an interesting point -- he's tired of small scale articles about PHP applications and wants to see a series of articles about a single large project built in PHP that showcases a large, maintainable PHP application.  I have one in mind but I'm curious if anyone else would be interested in such a series of articles...

Email me by clicking here if you want to see it or here if you don't.  The application in question would be a large scale open source groupware style thing.  All features including kitchen sink.  Heavily biased towards improving productivity of service organizations (Yeah... Scratching my own niche here).

And, if you're in New Zealand, the Recommended Online Dating Service is ...

I just heard from a reader that what sold her on using php for a project was noticing that the online dating service she liked was using php.  Just too damn funny.  She liked the service (although not the results) and thought php might be a good tool.  She started to pick it up, happened upon my security article and, when she hit some snags, I wrote this, as of yet, incomplete followup article to help her out.

Yet another example of intended use in action -- you think you're building an online dating service when what you are really doing is teaching people what programming language they should use.

(And, no, I'm not in New Zealand; this is just utterly random transnationality Internet based cross border linking at work)

Marketing 101 : The Myth of Intended Use

NOTE: This essay is intended for arrogant product managers, arrogant product marketing managers and arrogant engineers who think they know how their customers will use the products they create.

It's been apparent to me for some time that what we, as product managers, marketers and engineers, intend for our products to be used is nothing but a myth.  Period.  We honestly don't know what people do with our products until they get out into the world and customers do what they do.  Or as I like to refer to it:

"No Product Survives Contact with the Customer"

Buy The Wall Street Journal Today!!!

Bloggers don't tend to pay much attention to the Wall Street Journal since it's a pay site, no rss, etc.  Still the reporting is _outstanding_.  It tends to have less spelling errors than they NY Times (which I find disgraceful, but that's just me).  Anyway... Today's WSJ has detailed coverage of how the CEO of Tyco, currently under arrest for tax evasion, looted company coffers to fund his lifestyle to the tune of more than $135 million.    This included the company paying for a Jimmy Buffet concert for his wife's birthday.

Unfreaking Believable.  Unfreaking Believable.
