As I contemplate the near simultaneous acquisition of an iPod and a new car, I have to wonder if the two purchases should be combined somehow. Here's what I am thinking:
- The iPod can go anywhere I go
- Same with the car (well unless someone else is driving)
- Pretty much ALL the music I listen too comes from an 11+ gigabyte MP3 collection
- Ever since NPR announced their all too stupid, all too pathetic "don't link to us", I really haven't enjoyed NPR at all. And that was pretty much all the radio I listened to. Sure they rescinded this but it was the arrogance and stupidity that killed it for me.
Why can't Apple release a reference spec for a car radio slot where you can insert your iPod. Take a look at this picture:
It doesn't seem all that hard. Just a protruding FireWire or Headphone male end and you've got a real alternative to a CD changer. And then, think about it, when you lease a car, they could throw in an iPod! "Would you like to lease a 10 gig or 20 gig iPod?" says Joe the used car sales dork. I can just see it now.
NOTE: I know that I can just buy the all too silly cassette adapter with a headphone input to connect to an iPod but that seems so, well, inelegant. Why shouldn't I be able to just slip my (potential) iPod into a slot and go?
