First Tuesday was enjoyable last evening (if I say so myself, having been at the front table). I found an hour flew by; what each of the panellists had to say on the subject of internet access in the workplace, legal liabilities, spyware, copyright issues, etc was really fascinating and I took plenty of notes. Tonight, I'm talking about spam for about 15 minutes or so on Dave Fanning's 2FM programme, sometime just after 6. So if you are a Fanning fan you'll get a bit of me as well!

Then this blog will go quiet for a week or so -- I fly out to a wedding in Germany tomorrow, and Sunday go to Helsinki for work. Close to the summer solstice, so there will be basically no darkness at all at this time of year in Finland. It gets kind of deep-twilight-y for about 90 minutes and then it is bright again at 3 am. Weird and wonderful. All the hotel rooms have heavy sun-blocking curtains. Helsinki is a lovely place, a small city feel but very stylish, built across lots of little islands. The Finns love water, forests, saunas and a very strong form of alcohol that I can't remember the name of. But it makes lots of appearances during a meal.

This is when you realise just how far north Ireland is -- I don't need bike lights during summer til after 10pm. Here in Dublin, it was that deep twilight colour with some light still streaking the sky at 11:15 pm last night. I love this time of year for the colours of the late night sky.

Radio ID tags get Microsoft backing. The software titan says it is joining a venture to help develop standards for radio frequency tags intended for use in tracking retail goods. [CNET News.com] .. Anyone in the Limerick area should pay a visit to an interesting use of ubiquitous computing (hidden technology) at the Hunt Museum. Open through the 19th, the interactive experiment makes good use of RFID tags and other technologies -- including a 'sonic browser'! I'll be writing about the exhibit on Friday in the Times but both adults and especially kids would find this great fun.
