I totally agree with Phil. RSS/XML is tailor made for governments that seek to put out timely, useful information that can be easily gathered by its citzenry.
Smart Mobs reports that Trepia provides a new networking tool that lets you access a location-based list of other nearby WiFi users. So if you are sitting at the cafe and you see a desirable member of the opposite sex (and he/she is using a computer with Wi-Fi) you can send a message and "make a connection" without getting up out of your seat.
Its free to try and supposedly contains no spyware. It's not available for Mac yet (contact Trepia to ask them to accelerate Mac development if you a Macintosh person).
