SharePoint as a Blogging Tool?

Is this for real? MS WebLogger

"Couple the technical weaknesses of SharePoint with its complete lack of support for the biggest areas of weblog development, such as RSS output, XML-RPC interfaces, and TrackBack support, and suddenly Microsoft's presence in the realm doesn't seem nearly as intimidating."

White Paper on Technology Buying Cycle.

My only comments after reading the synopsis (I'll look at the full paper later) is to compare this with Gartner's Hype Cycle (I wrote about this last December). More later...

From Ross Mayfield's Weblog:

Whitepaper: Timing Your Business Case.

I have posted a whitepaper on the use of financial metrics (ROI, TCO, ROA, etc.) in consideration of the technology adoption lifecycle.  Below is the abstract and link to the paper.  Please email me your comments: Click here to send an email to the editor of this weblog.

Buyers and Sellers of technology have renewed their focus on valuation metrics such as Return on Investment (ROI), Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and Return on Assets (ROA).  There has been a marked shift from using ROI to TCO for the bulk of technology companies.  Today?s focus on cost cutting, however, only explains part of this shift.  Customers demand business cases using different metrics at different times depending upon their aversion to technology risk and the business cycle.  This article introduces a new framework, the Technology Valuation Lifecycle, for understanding when and why valuation metrics should be applied.  The 5 Value Drivers for ROI, the Whole Cost Model for TCO and the Competitive/Capacity Advantage for ROA reveal key considerations for metric inputs.  The article also highlights key business cycle considerations for valuation metrics and the drawbacks of metrics in developing a business case of technology purchase. Ontology in a nutshell. Here's a neat document by Fabien Gandon presenting the basics of ontologies in 32 slides, which I found in the 2002 KM Summer School review. An ontology is a logical theory that specifies a conceptualization by defining concepts and relationships between them. Ontologies are an important part of the Semantic Web. I've argued that informal hyperlinked ontologies can be used by people as a medium to share and reuse knowledge across disciplines. [Seb's Open Research]

Go Ed Go

Blog Pimpin'

Last night I met John Edwards, the senator from North Carolina and presidential aspirant. I told him two things: thanks for that speech in which you criticized the Bush administration's "gratuitous unilaterlism," and, You should get a weblog. He didn't know what I weblog was, so I described it to him. Then I spent a long time evangelizing weblogs to his press secretary, Mike Briggs. I have a long bet of sorts with Dave Winer -- he has said all politicians will have weblogs someday, I think many politicians never should and never will-- but a guy as articulate and ambitious as Edwards should definitely give it a try.
