Ah, the 3rd Thursday of the month - my non-profit harmonic convergence day: The Concert Association Board of Directors meeting from 5:00 PM to 6:45 PM and then I'm off to chair the Government Hill Community Council meeting from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

I usually roll into Chez Ski Boy et Slat Rat at about 9:35 PM with a very hoarse voice and in need of a medicinal grand marnier. Tonight was no different - the Grand Marnier with a fudgsicle on the side was divine.

Those two meetings make for a long evening. But they really are compelling in their own little ways. Public process is definitely messy but the stronger outcome is worth the mess.

So, I just started using Trillian - I know I'm a little late to the party on this one....But, what a spiffy Instant Messaging interface. Beats AOL IM all to heck. And it imported my AOL buddy list, preferences, and buddy icons in one automagic fell swoop! I'm instantly hooked!

Very good interview this morning on NPR with Bill Gates. The subject was the Gates Foundation and their donation of $51.2 million to help start 67 small high schools in New York City.

I am not a Microsoft fan and I regularly go nuts over Gate's arrogance. However, I am a big fan of the Gates Foundation and their selected projects. The interview was quite good and I really enjoyed listening to Gates discuss what makes a good school. I think he has it right....

September 11th and Iraq
Well, I'm stunned by President Bush's announcement that a link has not been found between Iraq and the actions of September 11th.

I'm not stunned because there is no link. I think that the lack of a link has always been clear - Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld played up the link theory to build support for the Iraq invasion. If the US mainstream media was more discerning instead of a exhibiting lemming-like behavior, the link theory never would have held up. But the media was not going to rock the patriotism boat.

So, I'm stunned because President Bush admitted that there was no link. Whoa. That's pretty surprising. I wonder if this is the first whiff of trouble for Wolfowitz and Rummey.
