A Scare on the Clementine Front
Last night, Clemmie suddenly became quite ill. Within one hour, she went from her normal bouncing Bouvier self to a very still (not listless - she was quite alert), obviously not feeling well, bewildered dog. I took one look at her and knew that something nasty was up. So I bundled her off to Pet Emergency (I seem to be a regular Pet Emergency client - my animals always get sick in the evenings or on the weekend.).
With a dog of Clemmie's size, bloat is always a concern and one doesn't have much time to act. So, there's no waiting around to see if she "comes out of it". Of course, that policy results in amazingly large cash outlays in the blink of an eye - Pet Emergency is not cheap. By the time one adds in x-rays, blood tests, hospitalization, etc., one becomes poor very quickly.
Anyhoo, the (really good) Pet Emergency vet gave Clemmie a very thorough exam. No bloat - whew! And nothing else was obvious. The x-rays and blood tests all came back fine.
A mystery illness.
We decided to have Clem spend the night at Pet Emergency (ka-ching - there went the cash register again). By the time morning rolled around, she was her old bouncy self. It was if nothing had happened. She spent the day under observation at her regular vet's office. I'll tell you what - she was one very unhappy pooch - to be "rescued" from Pet Emergency only to be "dumped" at her vet's office was almost too much. But all was forgiven when liberated her this afternoon. She's now sound asleep on my office floor.
We have no idea what was up last night. We all think she must have got into something bad. But we have no idea what it could have been. Peter's theory is that Clemmie saw his suitcases (Peter left early this morning on one week trip Outside) and she had a mini-nervous breakdown. She does have issues with suitcases. Just think, if she did have a nervous breakdown, Dr. L. would have a new patient and additional cash flow.
Last night, I was a major basketcase when we didn't know what was going on. In the past eleven months, I've lost both my Dad and my cat Jasper to very sudden, very lethal illnesses. Clem's mysterious attack re-opened all of those not very closed emotional wounds. But all is well now! whew!
