"At the meeting we discussed the relationship between XP and other methods of a similar ilk - at the time referred to as Lightweight Methods. We agreed that XP was best as a specific process: "a stake in the ground". We also agreed there was a lot of common ground between XP and some of these other methods. As a result of this (Uncle) Bob Martin decided to try to put together a meeting of people interested in this broader range of methods. "

From a terrific overview about the formation of "Agile Alliance", from a key participant, Martin Fowler:  [gtb]

Just saw the program for the O'Reilly "Emerging Technology" conference, May 13-16, 2002.  Plenty of topics that really matter: web services, P2P, JXTA, WebDav etc..  I'd love to go :-}. [gtb]

Toronto Java User's Group (JUG) tomorrow, Tuesday April 2nd, 2002.  It features Ed Saikali presenting "Code and Release Management Best Practices", a presentation he gave at JavaOne last week. [DJ]

Tim Berners-Lee's latest thinking on his vision of the next generation of the www - the "semantic web".  At the heart of the semantic web is the W3C's Resource Description Framework RDF standard -- essentially a metadata description format.   There is an excellent RDF overview at xml. com in an article by Tim Bray, a pioneer in the XML world.

The technical pieces of the puzzle for the "Semantic Web" are more or less all there, the stumbling block remains getting people to agree on standard "ontologies" and "taxonomies" --  i.e. how to organize information.  No small feat. [gtb]

"Eat your own dogfood" means to use your own products in the development of other products.  It is an expression popularized by Microsofties using their own development tools in the creation of their applications.  Looks like they forgot about it in this case. [gtb]
