Tim Berners-Lee's latest thinking on his vision of the next generation of the www - the "semantic web".  At the heart of the semantic web is the W3C's Resource Description Framework RDF standard -- essentially a metadata description format.   There is an excellent RDF overview at xml. com in an article by Tim Bray, a pioneer in the XML world. The technical pieces of the puzzle for the "Semantic Web" are more or less all there, the stumbling block remains getting people to agree on standard "ontologies" and "taxonomies" --  i.e. how to organize information.  No small feat.
