Google Relists Operation Clambake [Slashdot: News for nerds, stuff that matters]

Dvorak (as usual) misses the point. Web services have almost nothing to do with software rental (which is a bad idea for most of the reasons he lists). Web services have everything to do with the free (as in Freedom) exchange of information. Sometimes you'll pay or get paid for that information. Sometimes that information will enable a business at both ends to make money. Sometimes it will be just for fun.

There is something horribly horribly horribly wrong here. Now if I include links to Xenu.net and clambake.org here, does that make me or Userland liable? What about the links in the Wired article, do they make Wired liable?

Google Yanks Anti-Church Sites. Google used to include sites critical of the Church of Scientology. Now it doesn't, because Scientology is claiming copyright violations under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Declan McCullagh reports from Washington. [Wired News]

I'm in the process of moving from heads down work on web services with the STK to having broader focus on XML in general. You know what? There isn't much of a distinction. XML is all about moving data around. Web services are just a more formalized way of doing that.
