Listening to CDs

"Do you ever listen to your CDs?" he asked.

You see, it's quieter around here than it is at my brother's house.

In his home, there's a stereo and a tape deck and a CD player and speakers in every room. And there's always music playing everywhere. Here, on the other hand, it's often silent, which we frankly find appealing.

So anyway, he must have wondered if we ever play those few CDs that we've got on the shelf over there. He had taken one and was putting it into the CD player. It was Don Walser.

He was a rollin' stone from Texas, and I sang along. A rollin' stone from the plains, and I sang louder. Boy, I'd like to be back there again!

Say are you from Texas? We sang. That's what he was wanting to know, 'cause if we're all from Texas, boys, let's bundle up our clothes and go! And I sang along at the top of my lungs.

Then came the yodeling. I yodeled along at the top of my lungs.

He stood there looking at me. And Liza sitting on the futon. And Lexi in the chair. And my mother. And my sister-in-law. The stared at me slack-jawed as I belted out the yodel refrain with the dog howling along.

"Well," my brother said when the song was done. "I guess you do listen to your CDs."
