I Don't Envy Him

When we got home, it seemed as if we'd been gone for weeks. But we'd only been gone four days. We collapsed on our pillows and didn't wake up until the next morning.

Today we are no closer to a decision than we were on the day we left those so many (it seems) days ago. Indeed, things are less certain.

At the end of day 1 in Ohio, it seemed to be a frightful mismatch. How could anything compete with what they had to offer? Did we even need to continue? Why not just go home?

But a couple hours into day 2 in Michigan, Ben leaned over to me as we walked across a quad under the towering, leafless trees with umbrellas and hoods over our heads to keep the drizzle away. "Great," he said, "this just got a lot harder."

He has two cousins who visited these places a year ago. One loved the one. The other loved the other. Ben liked both. This was no mismatch, and the decision will be difficult. I don't envy him.
